Vasectomy Reversal Pricing

The most common question we get is why our prices so low. Typically, a vasectomy reversal that includes a possible epididymovasostomy ranges from $5,000 to $30,000.  However, we have set the price much lower.  For more information as to how and why we have chosen to lower the prices so significantly, click here.  

Unfortunately, no.  The main reason is that with the Standard surgery, we block a larger amount of surgical time in case a complex repair is needed.  As a result, we cannot fill that space with other surgical procedures.  Complex repairs are needed in approximately 30% of cases, and it is not possible to fully predict who will need a complex repair.  

Unfortunately, we cannot 'upgrade' the procedure on the day of surgery.  The primary reason is that the Standard repair requires more time than the VV-only repair.  Since the remaining time will have been allocated for other procedures or visits on the day of surgery, it is not possible to upgrade at the last minute.

Making this decision was challenging.  We had to either require the full amount upfront or increase prices.  Whenever payment plans or upfront deposits are used, a percentage of patients do not show up for surgery.  It also requires hiring more staff to manage the billing, leading to increased prices.  When we had to make the decision, we felt that people would ultimately prefer to pay less rather than have the option of paying over an extended period.  The one caveat to this is that people may choose to utilize CareCredit (third party).  This option allows the patients to undergo the surgery and pay off the balance later to the CareCredit company.

The following policy is one reason we are able to offer the reversals at such a low rate.  As more than 90% of our patients fly in from other states or countries, cancelling surgery within 14 days allows us to fill cancelled slots with other potential patients and keep overall costs low. 

• Surgery must be cancelled at least 2 weeks before the surgery date to qualify for a full refund.
• If surgery is cancelled within 2 weeks of the surgery date, 50% of the surgery price will be withheld.  If the slot is successfully filled, the 50% will also be refunded. 
• If surgery is cancelled within 1 business day of the reversal, the full price of surgery will be withheld and no refund issued. 
• Patients who cancel a second time within 2 weeks will forfeit the full price of surgery for the second and any subsequent cancellations within the 2-week window.

Dr. Landon Trost and Joshua Savage were the only male fertility specialists and vasectomy reversal surgeons for the entire Mayo Clinic (including Rochester, Arizona, Florida, and its numerous hospital health systems). They taught residents and fellows how to perform the procedure.  Although they loved working at Mayo and never wanted to leave, due to their family members' desires, they moved to Utah to open a practice specializing in male infertility and Peyronie's Disease, their specialty at Mayo.  In other words, the same team performing these surgeries at Mayo Clinic is now performing them at the Male Fertility and Peyronie's Clinic.  They have among the highest reported published outcomes for vasectomy reversals in the scientific literature and have published techniques to help other surgeons improve outcomes.  

Although you can fly home the day of the procedure, timing the flight home can be challenging and is often very uncomfortable for the patient.  Similarly, if you choose any form of general anesthesia (oral Versed or IV sedation), we do not recommend traveling the day of surgery.  Typical surgical openings are at 8 AM and 12:30 PM.  The morning surgery typically finish around 11 AM-12:30 PM, while afternoon surgeries finish around 4 PM-5 PM.  The SLC International Airport is about 45 minutes from the clinic. 

Yes, there are several within 5 minutes of the clinic.  Fairfield Inn and Suites by Marriott is probably the most commonly used one (901 1200 W, Orem, UT 84057 - estimated $149/night), although TownePlace Suites by Marriott 873 1200 W, Orem, UT - $159/night) and La Quinta Inn and Suites by Wyndham (1100 W 780 N, Orem, UT - $75/night) are also common choices.  

Although this is preferred, it is not required.  However, not having a driver may limit sedative options available for surgery.  If you do not have a driver, we ask that you use a ride-share service like Uber or Lyft. You should stay in a nearby hotel and cannot personally drive for the rest of the day following the surgery.
